Is Smoking Marijuana Bad for Your Health?
Weed. 420. Cannabis. Marijuana. These are some buzz words on many youngsters nowadays, but is smoking weed really good? I give a counter case (while being neutral).
Credit/Source: © iStockSmoking pot can not only be harmful to your health but is also (still) illegal in most states. But what is the point of trying to quit pot? Isn't it better just to stay smoking it? The answer is no, because there are many good health benefits of quitting cannabis. Read on to discover the health benefits of stopping smoking weed.
Lungs: One of the health hazards associated with smoking marijuana is cancer of the lungs. It is a fact that smoking marijuana regularly can cause respiratory problems like emphysema and bronchitis. Even though you breathe easily when you are not smoking weed, you do inhale all the smoke from it. So, it is very important that you keep your lungs clean by cleaning it periodically.
Lung cancer: This is one of the biggest reasons why many people quit smoking cannabis but they do not know it until they get cancer. The truth is that most marijuana smokers do not even realize how much they are damaging their bodies until they cough up lung cancer or pass out from chronic bronchitis. It is therefore imperative that smokers kick the habit while they still can.
Teeth: Smoking marijuana is extremely bad for your teeth. Some studies have shown that regular use of the drug can lead to weakening of tooth enamel which may lead to dental problems like tooth decay and bad breath. Although it is true that smoking the drug does not have any direct effect on teeth and gums, it is still wise to ensure your teeth and gums are strong and healthy by eating healthy food and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Besides this, the health benefits of quitting the tobacco use are immense in helping you regain your confidence and sense of self-worth once more.
Liver: Another surprising but true fact is that smoking marijuana is bad for the liver. This is especially true in people who abuse the drug on a regular basis. If the abuse is severe, there is a high possibility that the patient may suffer acute liver failure. The reason behind this is that frequent use of the drug weakens the immune system which causes it to weaken further and leads to other diseases as well. In this case, you will find yourself in constant need of transfusions and other medical interventions which may cause long term damage to your body.
Heartburn: This is yet another reason why most people kick the cannabis habit but overlook it completely. Chronic smoking can cause heartburn as well as other digestive problems. Some of the common symptoms include diarrhea, stomach cramps and regurgitation within hours of smoking. You will need to seek medical help for chronic heartburn if this is happening on a regular basis. If not, then you have got to face the consequences of smoking pot on a regular basis.
As you can see from the above list of reasons as to why you should quit smoking pot, there is no clear cut answer to this question. Most experts agree that it is best to focus on the positives of marijuana use and look at the harm that smoking brings. Many health experts advise that instead of looking at the negatives, you should focus on the positives and only consider quitting when you have completely lost interest in smoking weed and have done so for good. Once you have made the decision to quit, make sure you take all the precautions to ensure that you are protected against second-hand smoke.
