Kasparov - The Mental Challenge of the Grandmaster
Currently, both Kasparov and Carlsen are considered the best players in the world. Some believe their styles and strategies are alike. Many chess enthusiasts agree with Kasparov about his style, yet many other chess enthusiasts say that he is far better than Carlsen. However, both players have achieved similar results. So which is the superior player: Kasparov or Carlsen?
Of course, we must consider whether or not these claims are realistic. Nobody is ever going to honestly claim that they are the best ever. In fact, no player ever will claim that they are the best ever. This means that we are simply stating a perceived reality. The question of who is the best chess player has as much answer as the capablanca game.
Who is the best chess player of all time? Is there a right way to evaluate the skills of a grandmaster? What criteria should be used in order to determine who is the best? Well, in this article I will discuss some of the most important criteria that can be used in order to decide who is the best chess player of all time.
Kasparov has always maintained that he is the best player in the world. In fact, he has claimed that he is the only player who could beat him. He also maintained that the match he won against Viswanathan Anand was the match of his life. The former world champion is the only person to win more than one game against the current world champion, Masterclass Garry Kasparov. He is currently tied with Anatoly Karpov for the most matches won, though Carlsen has tied him for most tournament wins.
US Opens
When Kasparov announced that he was withdrawing from the US Open, Kasparov's critics flooded the internet. Many people were upset by this move, but none more than Kasparov himself. "I am not quitting because I am in trouble," he told reporters. "I am quitting because I am getting tired of playing against the greatest." Many critics have criticized Kasparov for not traveling to New York to play in the Open, and rightly so.
The Open draws are due to take place in April. The question is can Kasparov win another US Open? The answer is almost surely going to be no. That doesn't mean that he shouldn't try. There is a possibility that he can defeat anyone, anywhere, anytime, but he has never won a Grandmaster competition, and he certainly hasn't won a world championship, even if he did win the US Open.
Some say that Kasparov could not win a world chess championship with a group of average players, even though he has beaten some of the best players in the world. They say that it is impossible for someone to master the complicated opening and defense systems required to beat the very best players. It is also claimed that Kasparov is not a natural talent, and that even the greatest players have to spend a lot of time training in order to become a world class player. Well, let us suppose that those things are true. You still need to have the mental fortitude to withstand the pressure.
It seems that the only person who can challenge Kasparov's authority as the world's best player is none other than Bobby Fischer. Fischer has won all 24 of his matches, more or less, although many of his wins have been controversial, and some have questioned whether he cheated. Whatever the case, it is clear that Bobby Fischer has a more challenging task than winning a Grandmaster tournament. Will he be able to overcome Kasparov and prove the superiority of chess in the minds of chess fans everywhere?
